Dear Members,

As we step into a new year together, I am filled with gratitude and reflection as I prepare this first Newsletter of 2026.

In July 1976, Martha White, wife of  the US Consul General, together with wives of the Consulate General staff, met together and recognised a simple yet powerful need: for women of all races, languages, and Nationalities to come together regularly to form bonds of friendship. From those early coffee mornings grew a vibrant club that brought women together through lunches, supper club, coffee mornings, creative crafts, wine appreciation, outings, interest groups and shared experiences—while exploring the beauty, history, and richness of Cape Town.

Today, as the International Women’s Club of Cape Town approaches its 50th anniversary, I am reminded of the very essence of why our club exists. Friendship and Philanthropy remain at the heart of who we are. These values have sustained us for nearly five decades and continue to shape the spirit of our community.

For 2026, our motto will be “Friendship – the heart of every moment”  

It beautifully captures what makes our club so special, and serves as a gentle reminder that every gathering, conversation, and shared experience is rooted in connection and care.

When we gather, there are no divisions of age, nationality, or life stage. From young to mature, we come together simply as women—sharing conversation, laughter, creativity, and companionship. There is no judgement, only acceptance; no expectations, only connection. It is this spirit of friendship that makes our club so special and enduring.

As we begin this new year, my hope is that we consciously set aside our differences and focus on what unites us: the joy of being together. We are wonderfully diverse, and it is within this diversity that our strength lies. Each woman brings something unique to the table—regardless of age, background, or education—and through understanding and openness, we grow richer together.

Let us start 2026 in the true spirit of the International Women’s Club: embracing friendship, celebrating diversity, and creating a welcoming space where every woman feels valued and included. I look forward to another year of shared experiences, meaningful connections, and the continued flourishing of our remarkable club.
